Mentoring
A key part of Portland’s identity is its supportive arts community. GMS actively works to inspire, promote, and support artists experiencing houselessness and poverty in developing their creative practice by mentoring people on their own terms. When our creatives express an interest in pursuing their art or we see an opportunity to connect like-minded artists, we create space to foster collaboration and reciprocal inspiration.

GMS regularly hosts exhibitions in our HQ gallery space to feature our creatives, most of whom have never exhibited or sold their work before. We build unique partnerships connecting creatives with professionally practicing artists to generate never-before-seen collaborations. We mentor people both individually and collectively depending on their interests and skill sets, helping them build portfolios, apply for public art projects, generate business opportunities, and more.
