Gather:Make:Shelter in 2020

COVID-19 posed a serious risk to the most vulnerable among us and Gather:Make:Shelter rose to the occasion. While we needed to reschedule our planned activities due to the pandemic, we pivoted quickly to opportunities which created new collaborations in our community.

In 2020, we…

  • Ran a lightning fundraiser to support our Academy members

  • Joined the C(3)PO coalition to build and run three shelter-in-place camps during the pandemic

  • Founded a gardening program with Martha Koerner and Cirrus Nursery

  • Collaborated with Hygiene4All on a community hygiene hub

  • Organized a distributed community project for Portland Textile Month

  • Received a Light A Fire Award from Portland Monthly

  • Dedicated a new headquarters in the Pearl District courtesy of Killian Pacific

  • Hosted our first exhibition at our new headquarters, ART FROM THE VILLAGES

  • Celebrated two of our artists receiving Precipice Awards by PICA

Looking Forward to 2021!

Coming up next…

  • We’re building relationships with local businesses and our new neighbors and encouraging their participation

  • We’re extending invitations to city council to show off our new HQ and projects

  • We’re setting up our recently donated heat press machines to found a new cottage industry program

  • Our next exhibition “Valentine” will connect 100 artists across PDX to C(3)PO villagers who received tiny houses

  • Our Academy workshops are resuming in anticipation of our exhibition at the Russo Lee Gallery rescheduled for July

  • We’re investigating the purchase of a sound system for our Academy poets to safely share poetry readings, and our opera singer to enliven the neighborhood
