Hygiene Hub Collaboration

In August we embarked on our first public art collaboration with Hygiene4All to design a hygiene station in SE Portland built and operated by people experiencing houselessness.

Academy artists Aileen and Michael worked together to create murals combining Aileen’s colorful nature-inspired drawings and patterns representing Michael’s Native heritage.

The hygiene hub features an eighty foot long privacy wrap mural, as well as bright painting and even some bamboo plants contributed by our gardening project.

This project immediately led to further opportunities for our artists: Michael was approached by an apparel company who saw his drawings on display, and Dana and Aileen received an award from The Andy Warhol Foundation for Visual Arts!
