Gather:Make:Shelter welcomes Elizabeth Malaska as a Guest Workshop Intructor!
Gather:Make:Shelter has had the pleasure of hosting the amazing painter Elizabeth Malaska as a Guest Workshop Instructor this month.
Elizabeth Malaska was born and raised in Portland, OR. Before graduating with her BFA from California College of the Arts in San Francisco, her self-directed studies took her from Rome to rural Maine. She earned her MFA in Visual Studies from Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, OR in 2011, and has exhibited her work at Portland Community College, Froelick Gallery (OR), California College of the Arts (SF), and College of the Atlantic (ME), among other venues. She was named a 2021 Guggenheim Fellow, and is the recipient of a Painter’s and Sculptor’s Grant from the Joan Mitchell Foundation, the Hallie Ford Fellowship from The Ford Family Foundation, and a grant from the Elizabeth Greenshield’s Foundation. Her work is part of the permanent collection at The Portland Art Museum, the Schneider Museum (Ashland) and The Hallie Ford Museum (Salem). Elizabeth lives in Portland and is represented by Russo Lee Gallery.
Elizabeth has been teaching a series of figure drawing and painting classes to our artists, taking a deep dive into color theory, anatomy, painting textures, and more.
This is the first time that Gather:Make:Shelter has been able to offer a series like this, and we look forward to more to come! Our artists have learned so much from her and have created incredible diverse pieces in our studio.
Special shoutout to Suri for modeling!
