We are thrilled to share that GMS Founder Dana Lynn Louis has received a Lowenstein Trust award!
“The Lowenstein Trust is very proud to announce its 33rd annual Steve Lowenstein Award recognizing Dana Lynn Louis for her immeasurable service to the unhoused community in Portland. Drawing upon her 35 years as an artist, Dana envisioned a welcoming and safe place where local artists and unhoused community members could create works of art together. She believed the process of making art would build trust and understanding between people, lift their spirits, ignite hope, and ultimately improve the lives of those involved. She was right.
With Dana’s leadership over the past 7 + years, the nonprofit organization Gather:Make:Shelter she established has evolved into a network of housed and unhoused people creating art while also creatively addressing the local housing crisis, improving the lives of all those involved.”
