Gather:Make:Shelter Receives Oregon Arts Commission Grant for Sketchbook Project!

We’re thrilled to announce that Gather:Make:Shelter was recently awarded an Oregon Arts Commission 2024 Arts Build Communities Award! The award will support the launch of the Sketchbook Project, a new GMS initiative using sketchbooks as a means for creative expression and community building!

The Sketchbook Project aims to reach 300 people experiencing houselessness and poverty throug a free series of drawing and creative writing workshops. Workshops will be held at our headquarters, partner social service agencies and alternative shelter villages. The project will culminate in a celebratory 2-month exhibition at GMS’s gallery in the Pearl District.
