Gather:Make:Shelter collaborates with people experiencing houselessness and poverty through arts workshops and mentorship to empower participants to forge creative paths to stability and community. We believe in the profound impact of creative expression in building bridges and creating a more inclusive society.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a dynamic and creative Communications Coordinator to join our team. This role is ideal for a highly motivated individual with a passion for community building, social justice, and the arts. The Communications Coordinator will be responsible for crafting compelling language and visual/video content for internal and external communications for a variety of audiences including GMS participants, partner organizations, donors, and the public. The Communications Coordinator’s regular responsibilities will include managing our newsletter and social media presence, designing flyers, maintaining our website, facilitating partner communications, and managing digital assets. In addition, the Communications Coordinator will collaborate with the Gather:Make:Shelter Team to grow the organization’s audience, develop marketing strategies, and help execute fundraising campaigns. The ideal candidate should be proficient with Adobe Creative Suites and Canva. This position will report to the Operations Manager.
Employment at Gather:Make:Shelter involves regular contact with people experiencing houselessness and poverty. The ideal candidate should be interested in learning and applying trauma-informed practices during their interactions with GMS participants.
Key Responsibilities:
Organization Newsletter:
Create and distribute newsletter communications that highlight upcoming events, participant stories, and organizational updates.
Ensure the content is engaging, informative, and aligned with our mission and values.
Develop and implement strategies to grow our newsletter audience.
Social Media:
Develop and execute a social media strategy.
Create and schedule weekly posts across various platforms (Facebook, Instagram, etc.).
Engage with our online community by responding to comments and messages.
Craft messages that resonate with diverse audiences and promote our events and initiatives.
Graphic Design:
Design visually appealing flyers and promotional materials for events and programs.
Ensure all visual content reflects the organization’s brand and aesthetic.
Website Management:
Maintain and update the Gather:Make: Shelter website with current content, event information, and resources.
Ensure the website is user-friendly and visually appealing.
Partner Communications:
Serve as a point of contact for communications with partner organizations.
Collaborate on joint communications efforts and initiatives.
Craft clear, concise, and persuasive communications that foster strong relationships.
Distribute flyers to partner organizations.
Digital Asset Maintenance:
Organize and maintain digital assets including photos, videos, and graphics.
Ensure all digital content is up-to-date and accessible to the team.
Marketing and Audience Development
Identify and pursue opportunities to grow the organization’s audience and reach.
Analyze and report on the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and adjust strategies as needed.
Qualifications:
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in social media platforms and digital marketing tools.
Ability to craft clear, compelling messages through visual, lingual, and video formats.
Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suites & Canva.
Familiarity with website management (Squarespace).
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and in team settings.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Passion for community engagement, social justice, and the arts.
Preferred Qualifications:
Video and Photo Documentation Skills
Background and/or current practice in the arts.
Work Schedule:
Part-time, 20 hours per week.
